FORT BEND SIGMAS SERVING THE COMMUNITY

On May 30, 2020, the Fort Bend Sigmas participated in a citywide community service event. The Zeta Xi Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., in partnership with the Honorable Yolanda Ford, Mayor of the City of Missouri City, Texas, Precinct 2 Fort Bend County Commissioner Grady Prestage, and the Mary Susan Moore Medical Society responded to the ongoing needs of the Fort Bend community in Missouri City, Texas, an area heavily impacted by the CV-19 global pandemic. Held at Missouri City Hall in Fort Bend County, Texas, the Chapter assisted approximately 700 families by giving much needed food items, donated by the Houston Food Bank and the Zeta Xi Sigma Chapter donated $500.00 to the Mary Susan Moore Medical Society to help purchase Personal Protective Equipment in order for citizens to stay healthy and safe.

The Fort Bend Sigmas provided service-based manpower along with other community volunteers and placed boxed food items in citizens’ cars in a convenient drive through setting. Lines of cars began queuing out onto Texas Parkway long before the event began and the Fort Bend Sigmas assisted the effort by maintaining an orderly supply chain, food distribution, traffic management and PPE gift bag preparation.
